Only 1000 charities

Apparently there are only 1000 charities in England and Wales that donors should bother themselves with. That's according to the Intelligent Giving blog. The conclusion is based on their researchers' hunt for charities that actually solicit money from the public (proportionately very few) and spend at least £250,000 per year.

This dovetails with the observation by the Charity Commission Chair last week that at least 15,000 charities probably don't do anything.
